With fan mania in full swing at the Madison Square Garden’s Rangerstown Hockey House hosted by Chase Bank and there being a long-standing hockey tradition of players growing a beard for playoffs, MVP Interactive, Philadelphia, decided to help fans ‘grow a beard’, too.

In its latest activation for the NY Rangers, MVP Interactive deployed two MorphingStations equipped with QR code scanning to auto-populate fan data and allowed the fans to create ‘beard morphs’ of a particular Ranges player. It plays into the Ranger’s promotion for ‘Beard-a-Thon in Rangers Town’

NYR Beard-a-Thon is an opportunity for fans to grow their own playoff beard and raise money for the Garden of Dreams Foundation. With MVP’s MorphingStation, fans can instantly grow their own beard based off a current player’s unique and personal styled beard and hair.

Using QR code technology, pre-registered fans activate the photo engagement by scanning their mobile device over the designated area where all of their data (name and email address) would auto-populate. Using a touch screen, facial recognition and augmented reality, users had their bearded image instantly taken and sent to their email for sharing across social media sites as #NYRBeards!
