Tools such as Google’s Veo 3 and OpenAI’s Sora, can generate high-quality videos from text prompts but Google itself has been notably absent from the list of brands creating advertising campaigns with AI until now.
Google has now rolled out its first fully AI-generated advertisement using its Veo 3 platform. The advert, which began airing on television last week, showed a cartoon-style turkey using Google’s AI Mode to plan a vacation away from its farm before Thanksgiving.
The spot will also appear in movie theaters and on social and digital platforms but not out of home as yet. A follow-up ad with a Christmas theme is set to air later this year.
Google’s Creative Lab developed the concept in-house based on seasonal nostalgia and the animated holiday specials that many viewers remember from childhood. Robert Wong, co-founder and VP at Google Creative Lab, told The Wall Street Journal that the ad does not carry a label identifying it as AI-generated. He said that while marketers often focus on using AI to show innovation, consumers generally do not care if AI was involved.
